This paper seeks to comprehend and discover if codes of conduct that are created actually promote a healthy work environment or if there would have been no change if the codes were not written. The study focuses consist of Codes of conduct for Seneca College and literature review will be used to find out the effect of codes of conduct in the public sector. They are self-regulated rules designed and adopted by people or organizations (George Tsourvakas, 2015) A common code of conduct is written for employees of a company, which protects the business and informs the employees of the company’s expectations. It is ideal for even the smallest of companies to form a document containing important information on expectations for employees. The document does not need to be complex or have elaborate policies, but the file needs a simple basis of what the company expects from each employee. Research on codes of conduct have been evident through the growing interest of researchers and also most organizations. The study focuses on Seneca College and there are several codes of conduct recorded for both Students, faculty members and board of directors. As part of codes of conduct, the Student Code of Conduct is designed to promote behaviour that reflects our values — behaviour that also reflects the honesty, trust and fairness we expect in the actions of all members of our community. The Student Code of Conduct establishes Seneca’s standards of student behaviour and outlines the procedures to be followed if the standards are violated. Assessing the influence of ethical codes in organizations on employee perceptions and activities is central to a behavioural orientation (Mark John Somer, 2001). There are several reasons why codes of conducts should be implemented in all organizations whether private, public or para public sectors and whilst codes of conduct differ across organizations, they aim to influence behavior by setting out the values, standards of behaviour and business practices that are expected of members of the organizations ( In order to be effective the development and the implementation of an organizational code needs to be carefully considered. Codes should reflect the true values and behaviours that the organization wants to uphold rather than being a public relations exercise. The content of an organization’s code will be influenced by the objectives of the code as well as the organization’s strategy and culture. Codes should use plain, positive language, should be clear and precise and widely accessible. Their implementation should be actively monitored. There are several benefits and challenges associated with implementing codes of conduct; – Prohibits inappropriate behaviour Many companies use a code of ethics to prohibit inappropriate employee behavior. Inappropriate behavior can include lying to managers or clients, engaging in fraud or embezzlement, failing to meet specific operational standards or other similar conduct.
